「転がる石には苔が生えぬ」(ころがる いしには こけが はえぬ) has two opposite meanings.
1. People who frequently change their jobs and addresses can’t make money or succeed in anything.
2. People who always move around have new ideas without being dull or rusted.
The interpretations seem to depend on the set of values, which tend to differ in places, times, and generations.
We can’t say the other is simply a misinterpretation.
Other versions are 「転石苔を生ぜず」(てんせき こけを しょうぜず)、「転石苔むさず」(てんせき こけ むさず)、「転がる石に苔つかず」(ころがる いしに こけ つかず).
